As Covid-19 spreads across the globe, especially in India, the importance of immune-boosting supplements has only grown. Aside from Vitamin C, Zinc is an important component of our immune systems.

Despite the lack of data on the direct relationship between Zinc and Covid-19, its antiviral effect has been demonstrated against other viral diseases, particularly pneumonia, which, as we all know, is one of the deadly side effects of Covid-19 affecting the lungs.

Zinc supplementation has been shown to reduce influenza virus replication, hepatitis in HCV-infected patients, antiviral treatment response, and, most importantly, pneumonia prevalence, especially in developing countries.

In humans, severe zinc deficiency impairs immune function. T-lymphocytes, a type of immune cell that develops from stem cells in the bone marrow and helps protect the body from infection, require zinc to develop and activate. White blood cells, or lymphocytes, are one of the body's main types of immune cells.

Lymphocytic proliferation has been found to be reduced in people with low zinc levels. The link between low zinc status and increased susceptibility to pneumonia and other diseases is explained by changes in immune function, and zinc deficient people are more susceptible to a variety of infections, including SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes Covid.
